Jobert Belbis

“I enjoy the experience (acting), and find fulfillment in doing so, which is my way of showing my artistic side. If given more opportunities…I want to hone my craft as an artist.”

                 –   Sergeant Jobert Belbis
                      Film Actor

A sergeant (Philippine Army) in real life, the 29-year-old Jobert Belbis stars in a family drama short film, “Paghilom,”  written and directed by Danni Ugali. His character in the said shorts revolves around family matters, forgiveness, acceptance, and, healing which  is the anchor in bringing together the members of a family. Though acting isn’t something new to Belbis, the film is perhaps his meatiest break since he started being a talent in 2011 till 2012, when he was still a civilian. He joined the army in 2013.
It’s almost 10 years since he stopped doing acting gigs. In “Paghilom,” he takes the role of Mark, the brother of the lead character Reneboy portrayed by Joshua De Guzman. His role is something that would pave the way for the forgiveness and healing of their family. Just in real life, he also played a soldier in the short film.
Why act? “I love to watch movies during my free-time.,” he replied. “I am a fan of local and international actors who are good in their chosen craft.”
Are you not afraid to die (young), in your chosen profession? Without a flinch he answered, “No. I am aware of that possibility if ever I’m called to be on the battlefield.” Currently, Belbis is serving in the logistics office, which doesn’t require him to go out and fight.
In showbiz circle, Belbis is a friend of ex-PBB 737 housemate, Charlon Petro in 2015. Like Petro, he also grew up in a household of soldiers. Fast forward, to today.  He got the role through De Guzman, and that’s the reason why he is back into acting. They connected via social media and got introduced to the writer-director of the short film.
“Paghilom” is a reminiscent of the 1993 American drama film, My Life, starring Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman, but with a different storyline. It also stars the former Mutya ng Pilipinas 1989 second runner-up Jane Umali, Tony Boy dela Rea, and Shira Tweig. Cine Silang produces the shorts.
