“Tanggulan,” Project Headshot Clinic’s 15th World AIDS Day Series Photo Exhibit

“The exhibit title “Tanggulan” is to pay homage to our forefathers who fought for our freedom. My great-great grandfathers were Katipuneros. My mother was born in Tanggulan, a street in Kawit, Cavite, a fortress during the Filipino-Spanish war.” – Niccolo Cosme Founder Project Headshot Clinic

In commemoration of the annual World AIDS Day, Project Headshot, The Red Whistle and AIDS Health Care Foundation, will unveil “Tanggulan” a photo exhibit, this Tuesday (November 29), featuring the beautiful faces of our modern warriors, like, Pia Wurtzbach, Marina Summers, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Daiana Menezes, Nicole Borromeo, Gabrielle Basiano, Shane Tormes, Eva Le Queen, Viñas Deluxe, lead this year’s event, all in pictures.
Project Headshot Clinic was founded by Niccolo Cosme back in 2007. In 2008, his friend, Wanggo Gallaga, came out to him as HIV positive. Niccolo then asked him if they could create a headshot clinic campaign for a cause, and that kickstarted their yearly campaign for World AIDS Day and his journey as an HIV awareness advocate. He also co-founded The Red Whistle, an organisation dedicated to health and human rights, supporting those with mental health concerns, those with diverse SOGIESC, and PLHIV.
For more than 15 years, Project Headshot Clinic have been conducting photoshoots for various advocacies, and their most anticipated shoot has always been their annual World AIDS Day Series, and it’s their 15th of this kind.

Tanggulan Artist Talk

Inspired by the concept of warriors, Niccolo, together with AIDS Healthcare Foundation, envisioned to create a new world in which advocacies are likened to heroes and fighters through photographs. Advocates were styled and fashioned with Filipino and Southeast Asian-inspired clothes and accessories, garbled with sarong fabric and salakot headpieces designed by Myke Oropesa. Some of them also posed with a Kampilan (a single-edged sword traditionally used by various ethnic groups throughout the Philippine archipelago).
The “Tanggulan” exhibit will display 11 artworks taken from the World AIDS Day DEFEND shoot. The art pieces will depict an advocate’s journey, from its awakening as an advocate, and to the sharing of passion and information to encourage others to take part in the fight for accessible healthcare, and to continue to defend the rights of the PLHIV community.
Just how the Katipuneros fought for our freedom in the past, we must fight against stigma and misinformation. As warriors and soldiers with the commitment to uphold our Filipino value of Bayanihan, let us support each other and aim for an AIDS-free world together!
