RAMA, HARI A Ballet-Musical Masterpiece with A Live Orchestral Music by Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY)

In the vibrant world of Filipino music and dance, “Rama, Hari”, a ballet-musical masterpiece, takes center stage. With National Artists at the helm and live orchestral music to be performed by the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) Rama, Hari is a production that combines history, legacy and hope for the arts.

Rama, Hari presents a spectacular fusion of music, dance, and storytelling – a production that brings together the collective brilliance of five National Artists, musicians, and dancers to create a theatrical masterpiece. The historical production features the collaborative work of National Artists Alice Reyes for Direction and Choreography, Ryan Cayabyab for Music, Salvador Bernal for Production Design, and Bienvenido Lumbera for the lyrics and libretto, with English translations by Rolando Tinio.

The participation of a youth orchestra was born out of an earlier collaboration in 2022, when the OFY, Mr. C and ARDP worked together in Puso ng Pasko held at the Metropolitan Theater. These opportunities serve as testaments to Mr. C’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation and providing them with a platform to showcase their talent and inspire audiences through their music. Working with National Artists and esteemed professionals will enhance artistic skills and instill a deep sense of purpose to promote Filipino music and the arts especially for the OFY, who represent the hopeful energy of the next generation.

During the selected shows that feature live orchestra music, the OFY will be conducted by Toma Cayabyab, whose roots are inherent to the world of music. A familial bond between father and son, Toma and Mr. Cayabyab working together symbolizes the power of continuing legacy. Having trust in the musicality of the younger generation, Toma highlights that their presence is as vital as the seasoned professionals surrounding them. Their participation signifies the youth’s potential to shape the future of music.

Rama, Hari is more than just another theater performance – it is an unforgettable experience where different art forms, Filipino culture, and passion intertwine. With this production, our National Artists will leave behind an imprint that the next generation can carry along with them. From this experience, young musicians such as the scholars of the OFY will be empowered to continue their mission of transforming lives through the power of music.
