Without a doubt, all the world needs is a little bit of positivity and, perhaps, great music to come with it – this combination can literally brighten any day, mood or perspective, and oft-times even heal those who may be in a funk or experiencing a dark time in their life.
And if there’s one musical wunderkind who knows more than her fair share about overcoming tribulation and being able to appreciate the small triumphs that life brings, it definitely is Acel, one of the most resonant voices in OPM and one of the most radiantly infectious singer-songwriters of her generation.
Bisa digs-deep, and both channels and emanates that same optimism with her latest single “My Cure,” recently released on all digital music platforms via Sony Music Entertainment Philippines. In fact, the track is equal parts reminiscent and refreshing: the former of Bisa’s strengths to combine power pop melodies and sincere lyricism, and the latter – in comparison to modern music’s tendency to be either cynical and/or slightly detached from everyday struggles.
“Years ago, I discovered that my cure for sadness and depression was gratitude and being able to live with a sense of wonder,” Bisa shares, when asked about the overall inspiration and message behind the single, which has an unmistakable 90s alt-rock vibe to it. “Both of those traits changed my perspective and helped me appreciate the beauty of life, so ‘My Cure’ hopefully reminds people that the most simple and seemingly mundane moments and gestures can become the most meaningful: we all have different ways to cope with sadness, so I hope that by sharing what I do, it can help other people too.”
The release, written by Bisa and arranged and sonically produced by veteran talent Jack Rufo, also features Acel’s kids taking charge in the artistic department, as the single art was created by none other than her children Tashi and Yeshi van Ommen. It also follows a string of well-received singles, including 2022’s “If You Only Knew” and “Buhangin,” proof that there’s no slowing-down true artistry and talent.
“’My Cure’ was actually supposed to be the title track of an album I’ve been wanting to release,” Bisa reveals, “but I decided to just go for it and release this single first.”
When asked about her plans in the immediate future now that “My Cure” is officially out, Bisa offers: “I’ll be releasing a lyric video soon and I plan to release a live acoustic performance of the song through my youtube.com channel – but right now, I’m just excited and looking forward to performing my song at special shows… it’s definitely a message I am excited to share.” FIN
