Even before she was crowned queen at the aged of 25 (1953), then Princess Elizabeth was already known for her fashion style. She mesmerized the royal watchers worldwide with her bright and colorful oufits. According to an article published recently by Edinburgh Evening News, it was stated that the Queen’s fashion represented Britishness, and she always had her own style, regardless of current trends.
The death of Queen Elizabeth II last Thursday (September 8, 2022), ended the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She was 96. As the queen, her life was not only limited to service, but she was also known for her fashion style…her hats…and her pieces of jewelry. Although she was known at first to dress up conservatively, especially during her princess years, she eventually decided to evolve with her fashion style, as the years went by. And color became a necessity, particularly when she’s visiting various countries during her royal tours.
As a queen, it was reported that it was in the 60s that her clothing really came into its own. It was also during this time, as they said, that she had more playfulness with her colors and became more attuned with patterned designs. But it was in the 70s, as they said, that she formed her style for the rest of her life. More often, she was seen wearing structured hats and matching dresses and jackets.
And from the 80s… and the years that followed, the royal were seen wearing more colorful and bright outfits, matching with hats, bags…an umbrellas.
As a tribute to the Queen’s legacy, here’s a look back at her fashion style over the years.
