The 7th Sorok Short Film Festival (SSFF) kicks off this year’s event with a benefit film showing aimed at raising funds for more than 300 Mangyan students in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

The SSFF Rewind starts on November 19 and 26, 2022, and will be shown at the LEGO Educational Center in Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila. It features film entries from previous SSFF which gave themes like ‘Pagsulong’, ‘The Power of Giving, ‘Kwentong Pamilya, and ‘Out of the Box.
Proceeds from the SSFF Rewind will be allotted for the nourishment of 209 Mangyan students from the Inawa Panaynep Elementary School and 137 from Libagon Minority School, both in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.
Film screening for the new entries of SSFF will be shown on Dec 1 to 3.
This year’s SSFF Film Festival features a theme on “Singlehood: A Parent. A Child. A Journey”. Singlehood features short films dedicated to single parents, whether they are widow/widower, adoptive, or surrogate parents.
The 7th SSFF Awards Night is on December 7, 2022, at the Metropolitan Theater.
The SSFF has produced multiple award-winning movies from amateur and professional filmmakers over the past years.
It was organized to raise social awareness and served as a mode for students, amateur, and professional filmmakers, actors, and scriptwriters to exhibit their gifts, with its theme “Kapwang Gawa – the act of reaching out to other people.”
SSFF is a brainchild of Sorok Uni Foundation, a humanitarian organization founded by a veteran Korean ship captain and president of the Uniship Group of Companies, Jae Jung Jang, that started off serving the needs of persons affected with leprosy (PALs) and has later extended its service to social and economic inclusion of other forgotten neighbors – the homeless urban and rural poor, and displaced Filipino families due to calamities.
